The Department of Animal Health has sent official documents to all agencies requiring closer inspection and a review of the import of live poultry and frozen meat, as well as eggs, from the US.
Import companies with contracts signed prior to May 1 will see shipments quarantined for inspection.
In late 2014, 5.3 million of chickens were destroyed in Iowa after H5N2 was found. As of April 23, it had spread to 16 states, causing severe damages to the poultry industry.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the risk of H5N2 infection for humans was low, but it would remain vigilant.
Mexico, the biggest chicken importer from the US, halted on April 20 all live chicken and egg imports. Canada, China, Angola and Russia have also halted imports.
Most imported poultry in Vietnam comes from the US and Brazil.
The Department of Livestock Production said in the first three months of 2015 Vietnam imported more than 34,000 tonnes of chicken meat, an increase of 46 percent compared with the same period last year.
