Woman struggling to support three ill family members

A woman in central Nghe An Province is in desperate need of help supporting her husband, who has cancer, and her daughter-in-law and grandson who suffer mental problems.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc is taking care of her husband, Nguyen Huy Thu, as well as her daughter-in-law and grandsons who all live in the same house in Hamlet 1, Nghi Lien Commune of Vinh City.

Ngoc’s daughter-in-law, Le Thi Luong, suffered from abnormal psychology since 2001 when she gave birth to her first son, Nguyen Huy Hieu. She recovered after medical treatment, but suffered more serious mental problems after giving birth to her second son. Her husband abandoned them.

Luong can do nothing as she often has to take medicines to deal with her mental problems.

Ngoc’s first grandson, Hieu, suffered from mental problems since he was a little boy and was sent to hospital for medical treatment when he was eight years old.

 

Hieu, the grandson, fails to control his behaviour

Hieu failed to control his behaviour. His problems often become serious during the night and he often demolishes family’s furniture and even attacks his grandmother and mother. During the last Tet holiday, Hieu was hospitalized in Hanoi due stomach problems caused by long-term medication.

 

Old man who has lung cancer

Thu was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Even though he has a medical insurance card to get treatment at a military hospital, he has to use a hospital closer to home to support his wife and care for his ill daughter-in-law and grandson.

The old couple’s other children help when they can, but they have their own families and have little to spare.
