Thousands of people gathered at Danang airport and at the general hospital as Nguyen Ba Thanh returned from medical treatment in the US.
Thanh’s ambulance arrives at Danang general hospital
Thanh, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs and former secretary of Danang municipal Party Committee was welcomed on January 9 evening by crowds, that began gathering hours before his arrival.
Along with the crowd were several officials of the municipal government and Thanh’s family members. Locals shouted out words of encouragement.

Thanh was taken from the airport to Danang General Hospital and was admitted to Tumour Ward.
On the Internet, pages were opened to allow the public express its feelings and offer prayers and poems for his recovery.
Several members of the public called him “Uncle”.
Crowds welcome Thanh at Danang international airport
"I really admire him and wish he will him get well soon," one person said.
Some other members of the public even created poems about him to show their admiration and encouragement to him.
A ceremony to long for peace for Thanh at Buu Son Buddhist Temple
Prayer ceremonies are being organised around the city, including at the famous Linh Ung pagoda.
