Nine dead victims, including two children, were believed to share a common killer who was found dead inside of a Vietnamese restaurant, in Edmonton, Alberta, in the morning of Dec. 30.
The National Post reported that Cyndi Duong was fatally shot in a home in south Edmonton while two men and three woman between the ages of 25 and 50, and a girl and a boy — both under the age of 10 — were found dead a few hours later at a home in the northeast.

According to preliminary investigation, the 9 mm handgun used to kill Cyndi Duong had been stolen in Surrey, British Columbia, in 2006.
A Dec. 30 news conference announced that the motive for the mass murder appears to have been domestic violence. The killer, who had a lengthy criminal record, was well-known to police. He had been arrested in Edmonton twice before and was charged in November 2012 with domestic violence and sexual assault.
