Vietnam praises normalisation of US-Cuba relations

Vietnam believes the normalization of relations between the US and Cuba is a good start for bilateral diplomatic ties, an official has said.

Vietnam believes the normalization of relations between the US and Cuba is a good start for bilateral diplomatic ties and welcomes the statements of Cuban President Raul Castro and US President Barack Obama on resuming bilateral ties.

Vietnam hopes that these historic declarations will be in the best interests of the Cuban and American peoples and make significant contributions to maintaining peace, stability and cooperation in America and the world.

Foreign Ministry deputy spokesperson Pham Thu Hang made these statements at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on December 18 in response to a media worker’s questions on Vietnam’s viewpoint on the normalisation of US-Cuba relations after 53 years of interruption.
