Free ad boards placed in public places in Hanoi have largely become places for unapproved posters and graffiti.
The boards were set up in an effort to provide a free and regulated space for advertisements, preventing clutter of home-made stencil advertisements which can be seen on the streets. However, the effort seems to have been ineffective.
Because of lax enforcement, many individuals and organisations continue to put their ads on bus stops, walls and even on the pavement with impunity.
