The Nha Trang City Labour Union has introduced a new fishing society for Huong Xuan Ward, which will exclusively work at Hoang Sa and Truong Sa islands.

The fishing society has 81 members and 12 fishing boats.
This is the second such society established in Khanh Hoa Province. In December, 2013, the fishing society of Vinh Phuoc Ward was established for fishing at Hoang Sa and Truong Sa islands.
Le Van Dung, chairman of Huong Xuan Fishing Society said, "The fishermen participated voluntarily. We've come together to protect our seas while fishing and developing the economy. It's also a way to protect our sovereignty."
Currently, Khanh Hoa Province has nearly 10,000 fishing boats, of which 500 have regular fishing grounds around Hoang Sa and Truong Sa islands and the DK1 oil rig.
The fishing boats' owners must have proper communication devices to contact and protect each other at sea.
