DTiNews has donated money and books sent by readers to support two children in Ha Tinh Province whose ill parents are unable to afford their study.
Nghiem receives readers' donation
On September 3, communal authorities and DTiNews gave a donation totalling VND10,570,000 (USD503) to the family of Dang Sy Nghiem in Huong Tho Village. "After our story was published, many people called and visited us. They gave us textbooks, school supplies and clothes," Nghiem said.
The five-member family is one of the poorest in Duc Huong Commune. Nghiem's wife has suffered from mental-illness for several years and her condition is deteriorating. Recently, Nghiem was diagnosed with colon cancer and his 90-year-old mother is too weak to take care of the housework.
Children prepare for school
So the oldest son, 13-year-old Dang Sy Duc, has to care of his father and mother. Duc is in the 8th grade and his sister has just gone to the 5th grade. Even though the school year has started, the children did not have books or school supplies. They went to school with empty bags.
Duc said, "My father lacks an appetite. He often vomits after eating just half of the rice bowl. I just want we have money to cure him."
Thanks to the donation, they can buy herbal medicine for his mother's mental illness but cannot treat his father's cancer due to high fee.
Upon receiving the donation, Nghiem said, "We're really grateful for Dantri and kind readers for helping us."
