Commercial banks in central Quang Binh province have provided preferential loans worth VND910 billion (US$42.8 million) to support local fishermen following the Government Decree No. 67, the State Bank of Vietnam – Quang Binh Branch has reported.

Immediately after the Decree No. 67/2014/NĐ-CP dated July 7, 2014 on fisheries development initiatives came into force, the State Bank of Vietnam – Quang Binh Branch directed local banks to proactively approach ship-owners and ship-building facilities to survey their loan demands for offshore shipbuilding.
Of the total money allocated, Vietcombank Quang Binh has set aside VND400 billion, Agribank Quang Binh VND200 billion, Vietinbank VND200 billion, BIDV Quang Binh VND50 billion, BIDV North Quang Binh VND40 billion and Sacombank Quang Binh VND20 billion.
As of early October, local fishermen have registered to borrow loans for the building of 444 new fishing vessels and ten fisheries logistic service ships, with a total capital of more than VND1.87 trillion (US$.88 million).
