Nguyen Thi Loan was employed as a domestic worker for the family of Nguyen Thi Thu Huong. On October 1, Huong was worried when she arrived home and did not see the daughter or the maid.
When she called, Loan said they went to a playground, but in reality, she had taken the child to a hotel room Binh Tan District.
When it was clear that Huong's daughter had been kidnapped, Huong asked Loan what she wanted. Loan then told Huong to transfer VND100 million into her account. Huong cooperated, but also informed police in Tan Binh District and Ward no.2.
The police quickly found out Loan's location and blocked the hotel with help of the police in Binh Tri Dong B District. At 9:20am the next day, the police stormed into the hotel room, rescued the child and arrested Loan.
Loan said she needed money to pay debts and for medical treatment. Police are in the process of expanding the investigation.
