Hundreds of workers at a Taiwanese-owned company in Ninh Binh Province on September 11 went on strike to oppose what they see as unfair treatment.
Workers at Chia Chen Industrial Ltd. Co. go on strike on September 11
The company, Chia Chen Industrial Ltd. specialises in the production of machine accessories, and is located in Khanh Phu Industrial Park, Yen Khanh District.
This is the second strike at the company in the past month that was caused by the company for not giving its workers legitimate rights.
Some of the workers' claims include the company not paying standard social benefits, as well as not providing safe equipment to fulfill their jobs. Women employees complain that maternity leave policies.
Phung Minh Chung, chairman of the trade union for industrial parks in Ninh Binh Province, said that union leaders went into negotiation with management on September 11. Director Liu Chia Chen said that the company will consider the workers’ demands in this month.
Chung said that the union has explained to the workers and asked them to be keep calm. He also promised to stand by them in their struggle for their rights.
However, on September 12, workers, apparently not satisfied by such promises, continued the strike.
Employees of the company also went on strike in August to protest cuts in benefits such as bonuses and evening meals. They complain that the work environment is toxic and unhealthy.
After that, the company made a statement pronouncing they would satisfy their employees' needs. To date, however, management has not made any concessions.
