Fans crowd the streets after U19 Vietnam victory

Vietnamese football fans flooded the streets in big cities to celebrate the U19 team's victory over Myanmar on September 11.

Vietnamese football fans flooded the streets in big cities to celebrate the U19 team's victory over Myanmar on September 11.

Even though the squad went into the match under a great amount of pressure, they received overwhelming cheers from the thousands of fans at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi. After winning 4-1 against Myanmar, Vietnam will meet Japan in the final round of AFF Cup.

Due to the declining player quality and mounting scandals of the U23 national teams and Vietnam V-League, Vietnamese football fans seem to have been loosing interest in domestic teams. In this climate, it was encouraging for many to see thousands of people celebrate the victory on September 11, reminding some of the heyday of Vietnamese football.
