Heavy rains have knocked down many trees and cut electrical lines in HCM City on August 17 afternoon.

At around 3pm, heavy rains and strong winds appeared suddenly, forcing drivers to seek shelter. Two girls, travelling on Nguyen Huu Canh Street, were swept several metres away. Luckily, they were not injured.

Many trees on Mac Dinh Chi, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Nguyen Dinh Chieu streets fell. Meanwhile, a fallen tree on Pasteur Street brought down several electrical lines with it. The authorities had to block of the area afterward.

Due to severe congestion, traffic police as well as local security forces were mobilised to regulate the traffic and ensure order. Employees of green park companies were also sent out to deal with the situation.

However, near the intersection of Nguyen Binh Khiem and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai streets, a large tree fell onto a motorbike, which was carrying a four-member family. The mother was passed away at hospital.
