Readers of DTiNews donated VND30,060,000 (USD1,400) to a poor woman in Nghe An Province whose husband and two children all have mental illnesses.

Vo Thi Nhung receives donation

Vo Thi Nhung and her husband, Ngo Xuan Thung, live in Village no.5 of Hung Xa Commune. They were working, but on a bare subsistence income, in the rice fields. Her eldest daughter showed signs of mental illness when she was one year old. Their second daughter also started showing symptoms of mental illness. As their symptoms progressed, they were already expecting a third child.

During their fits, the children would destroy anything they could get their hands on, and even run away from home if they were not closely watched. There were even times Nhung was forced to ask the authorities to detain her own children.

Meanwhile, the husband, Thung, suffers from PTSD from war and sometimes puts his wife's life in danger. He has delusions that she may be an enemy spy. Still, after 30 years, Nhung refuses to give up and has sold everything of value that she could to keep the household going.

"They refuse to eat rice in summer, they only drink water. I have only rice field left, so we still have something to eat," Nhung said.

Hoang Van Ha, deputy head of Hung Xa Commune People's Committee expressed gratitude to DTiNews and the kind readers, as Nhung's family is one of the most disadvantaged in the area.

Nhung said, "I don't know what to say. I want to thank all the donors who helped us. I'll deposit a part of it into bank to take care of our daily expense and use the rest on proper medical treatment."
