The children showed symptoms of vomiting, high fevers, difficulty breathing and skin rashes.

Mrs. Yen, of Hong Thai Commune, said that at 8am, her 10-month-old daughter was vaccinated at a local clinic. Two hours after returning home, the baby suffered from high fever of 39 degrees. Then she vomited and then become pale and was making choking noises.

She is now being treated at Haiphong Children Hospital and is in stable condition.

Yen said that her daughter was alright before the vaccination and showed no signs of illness.

Nguyen Van Cuong, the Director of the Haiphong Department of Preventive Medicine, said that these cases may have been due to side effects of the vaccine and local authorities are investigating.
