Police in one ward of Thanh Hoa City have decided to start using bicycles during patrols so that residents receive a more friendly image.
Police cycle on duty
Police in Nam Ngan Ward launched the programme on June 24. It will mean that local police cruise the streets by push bikes so as to create a more approachable face to the police force.
Some local enterprises have shown great support, even providing funding for the purchase of bicycles
So far, ten of the bikes have been provided for regular police visits which involve small neighbourhood problems.
The model may be expanded in the near future
The city hopes that the model will become popular and spread throughout other wards, assisting in crime-prevention.
