A taxi driver in Hanoi was killed when a tree fell onto his car during the heavy rains and strong winds on June 4.
After days of heat, a rain fell on Hanoi last night. However, the heavy rain brought down many trees and billboards, flooded several locations. It was also the cause for the power outages in some districts, such as Hoan Kiem, Dong Da, Cau Giay, Nam Tu Liem and Tay Ho.
The incident occurred at around 7:30pm at the intersection of Hung Vuong, Quan Thanh and Thanh Nien streets. A tree fell over the street and a taxi. The driver was killed immediately and the passenger was injured.
Lieutenant Nguyen Van Thanh of the Traffic Police's Team 2 quickly called Hanoi Green Park Company, police of Ba Dinh District and firefighters to deal with the situation. The traffic police then found ways to clear traffic because the tree was lying in the street.
Firefighters and employees of Hanoi Green Park Company had to saw the tree into several pieces before they were able to clear the scene. The Hanoi Green Park Company is reviewing the damages caused by the heavy rain.
