A poor ill woman from southern Kien Giang Province is in need of treating a tumour on her leg so as to work to support a blind son and four abandoned grandchildren.

Truong is the backbone in her family
Ho Thi Truong, 56, lives in Nga Nam Hamlet, Ngoc Thanh Commune, Giong Rieng District. Despite Tet coming, she and her family are in no mood for festivities, as they struggle just to earn a daily living.
As Truong’s husband died over 30 years ago, leaving her with two ill children. Their first child, Ho Van Si, 38, is blind and has other medical problems, while their daughter Ho Thi Minh, 36, suffers from mental illness.
“I don’t know where my daughter goes and what she does. She often returns home with a baby after having been gone for two to three years. We don’t know who the children’s fathers are,” Truong said.
Fatherless children
Truong must do everything she can to earn money, but her modest income is not enough to cover their living costs. Local authorities have also provided them with support, but only at random.
Several times, the ill-fated family has had to live on sweet potatoes and a few bags of instant noodles. They suffer most when the children are ill.
Ho Thi Lanh, Truong’s older sister, said, “My younger sister, Truong, had her left leg injured in an traffic accident five years ago. Doctors said she would had to undergo surgery, but she ran away from the hospital and has been living with the injury since.”
She wishes to have a chance to remove tumour on her leg
Truong said six months ago a small tumour started to develop on her leg and now it is swollen and is as big as a water ladle.
Due to her illness, Truong cannot work anymore. This means that her son, Si, and one of her grandchildren Duy Dang, who studies in the 4th grade have to sell lottery tickets.
Long travelling but modest incomes
Le Hoang Khap, Vice Chairman of Ngoc Thanh Communal People’s Committee said, “Truong’s family is extremely poor and now that Truong can't work they have reached an impasse. They need help."
