On January 3, Hanoi Kilo 636 submarine will be launched to sea and anchor in national waters, marking its first official operation.

On January 3, Hanoi Kilo 636 submarine will be launched to sea and  anchor in national waters, marking its first official operation. After a six-week voyage, the mother vessel Rolldock Sea safely brought the Hanoi Kilo-636 submarine to Cam Ranh port. The handover ceremony is due to take place on January 10 following the completion of technical tests by five Russian submarine experts and Vietnamese agency representatives. The Kilo-636 submarine was built in Admiralty Verfi Shipyards in St. Petersburg. With a displacement of 3,000-3,950 tonnes, the submarine can operate at a maximum depth of 300 metres and at a range of 6,000-7,500 nautical miles for 45 days and nights with 52 crewmembers. On August 28, 2012, Hanoi Kilo-636 submarine was carried by mother vessel Rolldock Sea to prepare for an official ship launching.

In early December 2012, the submarine began its first voyage for the test-run period.
