During talks in Hanoi on November 1, Minister Thanh noted the visit coincides with the two countries’ 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties to reinforce their defence ministries’ friendship, trust, and mutual understanding.
It also represents another step along the path to formalising a strategic partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia.
Thanh said he hopes the visit will eventually be regarded as a landmark in Vietnam-Malaysia defence relations
Minister Dato, on his first Vietnamese visit since assuming office, spoke highly of the recent successes in bilateral defence cooperation, especially following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation between Malaysia and Vietnam.
Thanh and Dato discussed ways of accentuating future cooperation, particularly via visit exchanges, and raised defence policy dialogues at the deputy-ministerial level, the potential for a foreign relations department joint working group meeting, and soldier and officer training collaboration.
