Several people have showed their desire to adopt an infant boy who was left alone in hospital at birth by his mother.
Abandoned baby receives love from strangers
A month after Nguyen Hoang Huy was born, he remains at the paediatrics department of Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi. He is being taken care of by the nurses and has never been held by his mother.
After DTiNews published a story about Huy’s situation, several readers have called asking if they can adopt the little boy. Most of them are infertile couples who have been married for several years.
A 33-year-old woman from northern Bac Giang Province said she and her husband agreed that they would adopt Huy.
“If the baby’s mother doesn’t return to take care of him, we would like to bring him up ourselves. We've been married for seven years but have no children," she said. They visited Huy in the hospital.
Another woman from Lao Cai Province said her younger brother-in-law and his wife plan to travel to Hanoi in the next few days to visit Huy at the hospital. The couple has been married for a decade but also have no children of their own.
Nguyen Thanh Nam, Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital’s Padietrics Department said, “We highly appreciate attention and sympathy of so many people for Huy's case. We plan to wait for the mother’s return in the next few weeks before coming to the final decision on where to send him."
Under the current regulations, those who want to adopt a child must send a registration dossier and the child's documents to local government where they or the child has registered residency.
They must also provide documents to prove that they are at good health and financially stable.
Any potential candidates must be at least 20 years older than the adoptee while the adoptee must be less than 16 years old.
Adoptees who are between 16 and 18 years old can be still adopted by a step father, stepmother or other relatives.
It would take around one month to complete the adoption process.
