A/H1N1 influenza kills one in Ben Tre province

A resident of southern Ben Tre province has died from A/H1N1 influenza, according to Dr Nguyen Van Thang, deputy director of the provincial Health Department.

A resident of southern Ben Tre province has died from A/H1N1 influenza, according to Dr Nguyen Van Thang, deputy director of the provincial Health Department.

This is the first fatality from the disease reported in the province this year.

Phan Thi Thuy Trang, aged 47, first went to a private medical centre for treatment on June 6 and then transferred to the Minh Duc Clinic Hospital in Ben Tre province. Showing symptoms of pneumonia, she was admitted to Ngoc Thanh Hospital in HCM City on June 10 and passed away on June 12. The patient tested positive for the A/H1N1 virus.

Earlier on May 28, another patient at a district hospital in Ben Tre province had a fever and a sore throat and was coughing so he was sent to the Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City for treatment. He also tested positive for A/H1N1 but is now in stable condition.

Dr Thang said that A/H1N1 influenza has recurred this year and can even attack healthy people. Therefore, he is warning local residents to take preventive measures to cope with the disease.
