Both sides agreed to maintain the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership, including cooperation between their naval and borderguard forces.
They stressed the need to have cooperation and consultations in multilateral security mechanisms that do not negatively impact the interests of either country.
Both sides concurred the two militaries play an important role in helping their Parties and States settle disputes through peaceful negotiations and friendly consultations, thereby abiding by international law and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
Vietnam proposed signing an agreement against the use and threat of naval force at sea, expanding cooperation, particularly in relation to the two countries navies, and officially recognising the need to treat fishermen at sea humanely.
For his part, Minister Chang confirmed China is determined to follow the path of peaceful development, creating opportunities for neighbouring countries and seizing the opportunities created by its neighbours’ own ongoing development processes.
He assured his guest that Beijing wants to maintain friendly relations between its military and Vietnam’s, improve the quality of cooperation, and create an amiable atmosphere for each country’s development.
Chang told Vinh China wants to address sensitive issues with Vietnam without affecting relations of the two countries.
He also said China is willing to share its experiences and cooperate with Vietnam on peacekeeping activity.
Vinh extended Vietnamese Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh’s invitation to Minister Chang to visit Vietnam, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure.
