Nhan was addressing a four-day conference on the future of Asia, which opened in Tokyo, Japan, on May 22.

He said regional countries should focus on improving transport services, managing water resources sustainably, protecting internet security, and adapting to climate change.

The Deputy PM proposed organising six additional Asian forums on reducing environmental degradation and minimising climate change effects, developing maritime transport, effectively using water resources, improving information security, developing human resources and overseas labour, and promoting financial transparency.

As a responsible member of ASEAN and APEC, Vietnam is willing to cooperate with other countries in maritime transport and search and rescue missions at sea, he said.

Nhan also stressed the need to build a mechanism for annual dialogues on marine safety, anti-piracy, and natural disaster early warning information sharing.

Such a mechanism will consolidate trust, preemptively address potential disputes, and strengthen friendship, he said, adding that long term cooperation relies on nations’ willingness to share their advantages for the benefit of the region as a whole.
