The Ministry of Construction has chosen French consultants for Capital Area planning
The ministry has already assigned the Vietnam Institute of Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning (VIAP) to the plan for the capital city through 2030 with a vision for further development through 2050.
In order to ensure the quality of the project, the ministry has requested agencies to select foreign consultants.
According to the ministry, the foreign partners should take part in two tasks including forecasting and building a socioeconomic development model and planning for the Capital Area and the city’s traffic infrastructure.
Three foreign consultancy companies have tendered for the tasks, including the Institute for Urban Planning and Development of the Paris Ile-de-France Region (IAU), France’s EGIS Company and Australia’s Hansen Partnership Company.
After appraising their dossiers, the ministry has come to a conclusion that IAU would co-ordinate with VIAP to complete the project.
The ministry said IAU was an experienced partner that had drafted approved plans for Paris in 2011 as well as taken part in the study for the building of Hanoi Capital Area planning in 2006.
After the enlarging of Hanoi in 2008, the prime minister approved a project to draft plans for the Capital Area through to 2015 with a vision for further development to 2030.
There have been recent proposals that northern provinces such as Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho and Bac Giang should be added to the plan.
However, the ministry added that at this time foreign consultants would concentrate on the Capital Area including Hanoi and Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Hoa Binh, Ha Nam, Vinh Phuc and Hai Duong provinces.
