At a meeting in Hanoi on April 16, the National Steering Committee on Bird Flu Prevention and Control said one third of the 500 samples collected randomly from smuggled poultry and domestic fowls sold in the market tested negative for the virus.
Thanh said the avian influenza is still being kept in check but warned of the high risk of avian flu outbreak among poultry due to abnormal changes of weather. Meanwhile, border provinces have failed to prevent poultry illegal transport, he noted.
The MARD has urged localities to step up monitoring of poultry and poultry products transported from northern border provinces and prepare vaccines against blue ear pig disease and bird flu.
