According to the instruction, all judicial officials and staff are banned from drinking during work hours and lunch breaks.
Ministry leaders have also called for an alcohol ban at conferences and events which have the participation of justice officials and employees on working days.
Despite the obvious benefits of the regulation a retired official at the HCM City Justice Department said banning the drinking or sleeping was not fair. “I think the only thing that matters is that staff aren’t drunk when working.”
Earlier, authorities in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh also banned civil servants from drinking during lunch on work days from April 6, saying those who violate the rule could be fired. Besides, local officers at state offices, companies and military units are also no longer allowed to receive guest outside the office.
