Duong Thi Quynh Trang, Director of Public Relation at BigC Vietnam said all the grapes that were wrongly stamped with a Chinese flag were sourced from Vietnam’s central province of Ninh Thuan.

The fruits were supplied by Minh Quang enterprise that is headquartered in Hanoi’s Dan Phuong area.

“The incident happened as a result of a staff mistake when packaging the fruits,” Trang commented.

Nguyen Thanh Huyen, head of BigC Hanoi’s Communication Department said the entire BigC supermarket chain used flags as stamps for foreign products imported into Vietnam.

According to Huyen, the market has halted using flag stamps right after the incident in order to find another option.

However, some staff at fruit stores at BigC Thang Long said flag stamping on imported fruits has been applied at the market for around one year and was halted before the recent Tet holiday.

The staff added that BigC The Garden may have yet to halt such labelling, causing the mistake.
