The Hanoi People’s Committee proposed using e-ticket cards for all means of public transport in the city.

The Hanoi Metropolitan Rail Transport Project Board had already got the committee’s approval for applying e-tickets for the city’s metro system.
The committee has assigned the local Department of Transport to work in conjunction with other agencies and local and foreign experts to design a plan for an e-ticket system for urban railways, bus rapid transit, buses and taxis.
The ticket card would be used for inter-routes, used multiple times and credit can be added daily, monthly or quarterly. The plan will be paid for with municipal funds.
The committee has asked the Hanoi Metropolitan Rail Transport Project Board to avoid creating monopoly with the new payment system for the new Nhon-Hanoi Station metro route.
Late last year the HCM City Center for Management and Operating Public Transport said it was cooperating VietinBank and the municipal Department of Science and Technology to pilot a pre-paid bus ticket payment service, or e-ticket. The project is scheduled to be start this year and will first be applied to a few main bus routes.
HCM City is also studying the use of e-ticket for its metro routes.
