Foot and mouth disease has broken out at a cow farm in Tho village, Song Hinh district of the south-central province of Phu Yen.
The disease recurred during the week-long Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, making it difficult for preventative work.
The district’s animal health service isolated and sterilised the affected farms and intensified the slaughtering, transportation, and trading of sick cattle in the region.
Meanwhile, the blue ear pig disease has spread to 7 communes and Ai Nghia town of Dai Loc district Quang Nam province.
As of February 16, the disease had contracted 800 pigs, of which 30 had died already.
The local administration and veterinary agency culled 60 sick pigs, disinfected farms and monitored the transportation of the affected pigs in an effort to contain the disease.
Phan Duc Tinh, vice chairman of the District People’s Committee, said the committee has established inter-sectoral inspection teams to deal with the slaughtering and trading of sick pigs in the region.
