A severe cold spell is expected to hit the northern region today, with temperatures dropping to 10-12 degrees Celsius in plains areas, according to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecast Centre.
Meanwhile, the temperature will drop as low as 1-3 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas, and frost may appear.
The cold spell, which may also trigger rain for the north, will likely last through New Year's Day.
