The victims, all construction workers, were taking the bus to a construction site.

They came from the Nam Thanh and Van Dien Communes of Nam Dan District, in the central province of Nghe An.

Families of the victims in Nghe An Province are all in deep pain after hearing about the news.

According to Nguyen Tran Tuan in Van Dien Commune, he has been informed that his son, his son-in-law and his brother all died in the accident.

"I received a phone call from a relative in Laos on December 19 afternoon who said that the bus caught accident at 2:am when it was on the way from Vientiane to Champasak province, and all three members in our family died," he said.

Detailed information about the location and cause of the accident have not yet been determined. Tran Ba Minh, chairman of Van Dien Commune People's Committee, said he also received the news via his mobile phone and had not been given a list of the victim.
