The Hanoi International Film Festival opened on the evening of November 25 at the Cultural Friendship Palace with the participation of local and foreign artists.

A total of 37 films will compete at the festival, the second of its kind in Hanoi, including 14 feature films, 13 short films, five documentaries and five cartoons. Vietnam has two films entered in the festival, including Dam Me or Passion and Thien Menh Anh Hung or Brave Dispensation.
The festival will feature 117 films, including 42 domestic movies which will be continuously shown in Hanoi cinemas.
Foreign films include Iran’s A Separation, Argentina’s The Secret in Their Eyes, Britain’s We Need to Talk about Kevin.
Jan Schuette, director of the German Film and Television Academy Berlin, will chair the judge’s panel.
Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti, and New Zealander Cliff Curtis will also work as judges at the festival.
Ngo Phuong Lan, head of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Cinematography Department said the festival aims to encourage new regional talent and support exchanges among global cinematographers.
On the opening day, the film Cat Nong or Hot Sand by director Le Hong was first to be presented.
