Police crack down on fake three-wheeling war vets in Hanoi

Hanoi police caught many drivers who falsely claimed to be disabled veterans to make money by operating three-wheeled vehicles.

The Hanoi traffic police have focused in on people who pretend to be disabled veterans so that they can make more money by operating three-wheeled passenger and transport vehicles.

Police caught dozens of drivers who falsely claimed to be disabled veterans on the morning of October 16, raising the total number of fined violators to 40 in the space of two days. Most were caught in Dong Da, Thanh Xuan, Hai Ba Trung and Hoan Kiem districts.

The move came from after the municipal People’s Committee received petitions from actual wounded ex-soldiers denouncing these drivers' fraud.

To date, Hanoi authorities have licensed around 200 three-wheel vehicles for use for disabled war veterans, but the real number of such vehicles operating in the streets of Hanoi is much higher.
