Police in Quang Ninh Province have decided to prosecute 11 people for appropriating hundreds of thousands of litres of oil from a local warehouse.

The police said on October 15 that six were being held in custody for further investigation into the case. The oil warehouse 15 belongs to Hon Gai Materials Enterprise, located at Ha Tu Coal Company in Ha Long City.
The offenders include Nguyen Thi Phuong, 47, Vu Van Luon, 48, Bui Duy Hung, 37, Tran Minh Ngoc, 22, Nguyen Hai Linh, 31, Vu Ba Quy, 42, Do Van Quyet, 37, Bui Thanh Tan, 51, Bui Duc Tam, 53, Luu Thi Minh, 48, and Nguyen Xuan Thu.
Tran Minh Ngoc and Nguyen Hai Linh worked for Hon Gai Materials Enterprise. Both of them were caught red-handed while colluding with drivers Vu Van Luon and Bui Duy Hung to steal oil to sell to Do Van Quyet on September 5. The police seized 1,000 litres of oil on spot.
The police further investigated the case and detected an 800-metre oil pipeline connecting the warehouse to the house of Vu Ba Quy in Area 4 of Ha Long City’s Ha Phong Ward. Quyet rented Quy’s house to stockpile the bought oil.
On October 15, the police summoned an additional six drivers at the Ha Tu Coal Company to collect their statements for further investigation.
Many others could have been involved in the case in which hundreds of thousands of litres of oil were stolen. A list compiled by the warehouse’s cashier includes at least 80 workers.
An anonymous driver said that there were three shifts per day and each shift stole between 2,000 and 2,500 litres of oil. They collected the oil and shared the profits at the weekend.
