RoK stops recruiting new Vietnamese guest workers - 1
The Republic of Korea (RoK) has announced that it will temporarily stop recruiting new Vietnamese guest workers in 2012.

The Overseas Labour Centre (OLC) under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said from now to the end of this year the RoK will only employ those labourers who have returned home after their work permits expired.

Some 2,800 out of more than 13,900 profiles of labourers who attended the Korean language test last December have been selected by Korean employers. The remaining have to await quotas for 2013.

The RoK Government plans to recruit 62,000 foreign labourers in 2013.

OLC Vice Director Luong Duc Long said more than half of those Vietnamese labourers did not return home after their work permit expired. The Korean Ministry of Employment and Labour has asked Vietnam to take drastic measures to prevent them from going into hiding. New job opportunities will open up for them only when the situation is improving.
