A local police leader revealed to Tuoitrenews that according to the autopsy report whose contents have yet to be released publicly, American tourist Karin Joy Bowerman did not die from poisoning.

“She died from breathing failures, circulatory collapse due to brain edema”, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hong Ky, deputy head of Nha Trang city police department told Tuoitrenews.

The senior policeman also added “no toxic traces have been found in her blood and gastric fluids”.

Since no poison has been detected in the samples, there are no grounds for a criminal investigation in this case, the officer informed.

The autopsy report was done by the Central Forensic Center in Hanoi and sent to the Khanh Hoa Forensic Center yesterday morning which in turn sent it to the city police as per procedures.

For now, the contents of the report have not been publicly released.

Tuoitrenews will provide the full report at the earliest possible.

27-year-old Karin died mysteriously in July in Vietnam with her Canadian friend Cathy Huynh while touring Nha Trang beach city.

As previously reported, on the afternoon of July 30, Cathy Huynh and Karin Joy Bowerman felt tired and had the owner of the hotel where they shared a room during their week-long vacation in the city call a taxi to drive them to hospital.

They were reportedly fully conscious upon being hospitalized at a military hospital but both later died at another state-owned hospital under unusual circumstances.

Their deaths were rumored to be caused by some kind of poison. Alcohol and insecticide poisonings had been suggested.
