The People’s Committee of Quang Nam Province has just approved the construction of an open-air theatre in the Hoi An old town.
The the planned theatre will be able to seat 3,000 and will also house a 600-square metre stage able to hold hundreds of artists. It will be built in modern architectural style, but will retain some traditional elements as well.
The theatre will be used to put on regular performances for both locals and visitors.
According to the province’s vice chairman, Tran Minh Ca, the project, which will be paid for by the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is estimated to cost VND 15 billion (USD719,000). Some parts including the stage are expected to be complete by June 2013.
