Even though it has not been particularly rainy in Hanoi, certain lanes and alleys in Cao Xa Ha Village, Duc Giang Commune are flooded, giving a chance to industrious vendors to set up temporary floating markets.
The current drainage canals for the village have been out of order, while the construction on newly-scheduled canals are slated for completion for at least two months. The current system is not sufficient to deal with all of the discharge from local households, causing environmental problems.
The temporary market in the village that is the most affected by the weather includes around a dozen pork and vegetable stalls. But their products are made slightly less attractive by the smell of wastewater from surrounding areas. Many do not trust the floating markets because a bit of contaminated water could easily splash onto food products by a careless passer-by.
