VND38-billion hospital left unused in Kon Tum

Kon Tum Hospital of National Medicine which costs a total of VND38 billion has been left unused despite having been completed in 2008.

Kon Tum Hospital of National Medicine which costs a total of VND38 billion (USD1.8 billion) has been left unused despite having been completed in 2008.

According to Kon Tum Province’s Health Department, they have been unable to open the 50-bed hospital due to a lack of clean water supply. The facility was one of the province’s key projects in the 2006-2010 period.

The department added that despite drilling up to 100-150m down for a water source in 10 different locations, they had failed to find one. To add to the problem, the hospital is located at the top of a hill, preventing access to tap-water.

The hospital is also waiting for a waste treatment system to be built, and there is a lack of funding for trees within the campus.

It is ironic that while many hospitals are overcrowded, this one remains vacant.
