For badminton, it will organise the Vietnam Challenge 2012 in Hanoi from March 26 to April 1, and the Grand Prix Vietnam Open in Ho Chi Minh City from August 21-26.

Vietnam will be the host country of an Asian Chess Championships from May 4-13 to select prospective players for the World Cup 2013. It will also organise the Southeast Asian Age-Group Chess Championships in June.

The third Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup will take place in Vinh Phuc province, 40km from Hanoi capital, from September 1-7.

HCM City will host matches of the Southeast Asian Women’s Football Championship from September 10-23.

Vietnam will also be the host country of the qualifying round of the Asian Futsal Club Championship in the Southeast Asian and East Asian regions, and the Asian Taekwondo Championships.

In response to a proposal by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has agreed in principle the organisation of these sporting events in Vietnam in 2012.

He asked the ministry and relevant agencies to successfully organise these events to help raise Vietnam’s profile in the world sport arena, as well as promoting the country, its land and people to the wider world.
