“Many incidents have happened before and during Vietnam Airlines flights as a result of low passenger safety awareness and stupidity, including issuing fake bomb threats, the opening of emergency exits, and disorder during flights. However, the highest fine is just VND20 million (USD959.23), which is not a strict enough deterrent,” Truong noted.
According to him, the ministry supported the proposal as part of measures to improve air passenger awareness. The ministry will study the proposal and suggest a new penalty in the time to come.
The ministry’s Chief Inspector Nguyen Xuan Hao earlier recommended increased fines as a deterrent. The ministry may even require violators to pay compensation to airlines, Hao added.
