EU keen on bilateral FTA with Vietnam

The European Union (EU) is keen on bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations with Vietnam towards a comprehensive Vietnam-EU FTA in future, said European Commission Trade Spokesperson, John Clancy.

Mr Clancy made the statement on March 1 in response to reporters’ question on the bilateral Vietnam-EU FTA.

He said the EU is expecting to start official negotiations with Vietnam as early as possible.

He added that in the interests of the EU and partners in future, preparations for FTA talks including a feasible study into basic parameters and concrete goals for each area under FTA negotiations, should be conducted thoroughly.

The EU and Vietnam will work together to finalize the document.
