Vietnam's team now is ahead of Thailand, becoming the number-one ranked football team in Southeast Asia, and the 13th in greater Asia for the month.

This is the first time since September 2004 that the country has been named among top 100 in FIFA.

Vietnam is also among top ten of the Best Mover of the Year 2011, along with Wales, Sierra Leon, Bosnia, Bermuda, Denmark, Peru, Lebanon, El Salvador and Republic of Ireland.

The highest ranking that Vietnam received was 84th, in September 1998.

In FIFA’s December rankings, Thailand stood at 122nd place worldwide, which makes it 18th in Asia, followed by Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Brunei and Timor-Leste.

Spain topped the December list, followed by the Netherlands, Germany and Uruguay. Spain is also the Team of the Year for the fourth year in a row.
