Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh uncovered a major illegal coal mining case on November 11, arresting 24 people during their raid.
Police confiscated three coal trucks, a power generator and other equipment in Cao Xanh Ward, Ha Long City. According to initial estimates, around 700 tonnes of coal had been mined.
The police are conducting further investigations and collecting evidence related to pursue the prosecution.
Between November 1-23, police in Quang Ninh seized 120 vehicles carrying more than 2,000 tonnes of coal. The local police in conjunction with with several coal companies destroyed 39 illegal mines in eight wards throughout the province.
