The Ministry of Public Security will buy a mobile DNA analysis machine from the NEC Corporation, the first of its kind in the work, to improve criminal investigations.
Lieutenant-general Pham Quy Ngo, Deputy Minister of Public Security made the announcement when viewing exhibition stalls during the on-going 80th General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) in Hanoi.
The machine can conduct DNA at site on crime scenes within just 25 minutes. Vietnam’s current DNA analysis process often takes a day, slowing investigations.
The highly portable equipment can be transported anywhere. Its conducts a DNA analysis over five steps, comprising of cell collection, DNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), electrophoresis and STR analysis.
