The Japanese Government granted emergency relief goods worth JPY20 million (USD253,000) to flood victims in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region.

The support, which came through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), includes plastic containers for protecting water and power generators.
Representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam and JICA Vietnam presented the relief goods to the Fatherland Front Central Committee today (November 2).
The recent floods claimed the lives of over 60 people and forced over 8,000 households in the region to evacuate.
According to the regional Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, the record around 22,700ha of rice paddies and 4,000ha of other crops were flooded. Up to 1,500km of dykes were damaged and 1,340km of rural roads put under water since August.
In October 2010, the Japanese government also provided relief to flood victims in the central region with goods worth about JPY20 million.
