Denmark will provide official development assistance (ODA) worth $135 million for Vietnam in 2011-2012.
The Danish Embassy announced at a press briefing in Hanoi on October 19 that Denmark will focus this aid on green growth in Vietnam. It will help Vietnam improve the quality of safe water supply so that more poor people can access this essential resource. It will continue supporting the country’s national target program to respond to the impact of climate change by introducing alternative energy initiatives like wind and solar energy projects.
Also, Danish businesses will set up a scheme to transfer cutting-edge green technologies to Vietnam.
Danish Ambassador to Vietnam, John Nielsen, said a wide range of trade and support activities will be held in November to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Green growth will be a key issue.
Demark is one of Vietnam’s key donors with more than $1.2 billion going to the fields of clean water and environmental sanitation, agriculture, the environment, judicial reform and private sector development.
