Authorities in Hanoi have decided to honour 10 outstanding citizens for their major contributions to municipal development on the occasion of the capital’s Liberation Day, October 10.
The awardees include journalist cum researcher Giang Quan who is the author of a book Ky su dia chi Ha Noi or Hanoi Chronicle, and Tu dien duong pho Ha Noi, known in English as a Dictionary of Hanoi Streets.
Buddhist nun Thich Dam Lan, who is the head of Bo De Pagoda in Long Bien District, was among the awardees. She is renowned for her charitable, helping deprived children, and raising 10 orphans.
Wartime veteran and Agent Orange/dioxin victim Trinh Van Hung was honoured for his successful household business.
Other awardess include Musician Pham Tuyen, Writer To Hoai, Major General Trinh Thanh Van, People’s Teacher, Dr. Tran Vinh Dieu, Doctor Nguyen Thi Duc Hien, Nguyen Gia Tho - Chairman of Song Long Commune, and Truong Thi Nhan – Former Chairman of Pham Dinh Ho Ward’s Study Encouragement Society.
