Typhoon Nesat hit Vietnam’s northern provinces this morning (September 30), causing heavy rains and strong gusts.

Blown over trees in Ha Long City
The storm destroyed five ships and 17 rafts housing seafood farming in Quang Ninh Province, and flooded roads and caused a landslide in Ha Long City.
Bui Van Can, Chairman of Van Don District People’s Committee, said six houses had their roofs swept away and some aquatic breeding rafts were damaged, causing initial estimated losses of VND1 billion (USD48,000).
In Do Son District, Haiphong City, people in high-risk areas, particularly the low-lying ward of Bang La, have moved to safety.
Hoang Binh Dinh, Chairman of Do Son District People’s Committee said the district would move 2,500 locals from areas under threat of flooding. Food, clean water and medical supplies have been prepared.
More than 3,000 people in Hai Trieu Commune, Nam Dinh Province, have been evacuated to shelter. The commune is home to several dykes that are deemed unsafe.
In Thai Binh Province, authorities have checked storm prevention activities in the two coastal districts of Thai Thuy and Tien Hai.
